07.12.2020

swissethics has published a short guidance document regarding the use of food stuffs and food supplements in research. These products could be classified as investigational medicinal products (IMP) according to ClinO, in which case they would have to be made according to GMP and be submitted to the ethics committee and Swissmedic. It is also possible, that these products would be classified as an “other clinical trial” which requires a submission to the ethics committee only. In this case, the food stuffs would be produced according to the Foodstuffs Act (FSA). The products could also be classified as a non-clinical trial according to HRO chapter 2. Further details can be found in the guidance, which is available in English.
